The Garlic Dad is initially battled alone on the second floor of the Double Reed Tower and later in pairs or groups of three.
The normal physical attack is a butting attack with a chance of knockdown, but it will only use this if at least one character is already at melee range, rather than coming to a character. Garlic Fall is a drop of onions from a distance on all in range with a chance of knockdown. Scattering Burp is three hits in a line on all targets in range, and it might use this either from a distance or at melee range. Finally, it can use Murmur to heal either itself or an ally for 15700 HP, and it need not be in critical.
The Garlic Dad has some powerful attacks and generally doesn't hesitate to use them. The Special Attacks are generally easily Guarded against, but can cause a lot of damage if one of these catches a target from behind or, worse, the party is caught in a dangerous back-attack. Alone, this enemy is easily enough to defeat, but the difficulty quickly escalates when they start appearing in pairs or in a group of three. Be ready to Guard or Counterattack at all times and be ready to escape if a back-attack happens.
In Encore Mode, take extra care to avoid a back-attack, even if it means sacrificing the possibility of getting a preemptive strike. Have at least one healer in the party and try to have Echoes built up before going into battles.
- In the PlayStation 3 version of Eternal Sonata the amount of EXP granted for defeating this opponent was reduced by 10000 points, but its HP was increased by around 20000.
